1 Month Buddy!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! It is beyond crazy to think that I have been out here a month! I know I say this every week, but I love being a missionary! One of the Elders in my district said something this week that I just loved. He said "The days are long and the weeks are short, perhaps God Intended it to be that way so that missionaries could enjoy every single moment but not feel like they have been gone for an eternity." I feel this quote on a spiritual level haha. They days are so freaking long but then we get to P-day and I can't believe I have made it another week.

Over all, this week was amazing. The Spanish is coming, slowly but surely. My companion and I went Sólo Español this week. (Meaning we only speak Spanish to each other) To be completely honest we only did it until about 12:00 then we would talk mostly Spanish but still some English. It is way hard though. Our teachers tell us that you have to make 30,000 mistakes before you can be fluent...... well i am pretty sure i have already reached that. haha. Spanish is fun and the gift of tongues is real! When we teach, it is crazy the words that just seem to fall from you mouth that you didn't even know you knew.

Thanksgiving in Mexico was a blast! We started out the day with a Devotional Broadcast from Provo where Elder Anderson and his grandchildren from Bountiful (Go B-Town) spoke. I loved it! He pretty much talked about how everything we do, have, and are, is from the Lord and we need to always remember that and show our gratitude. Here are a few good quotes from the talk: "its true isn't it? Then what else matters?" "Do your Best and the lord will do the rest" "Nothing is ours, everything has been given to us" "To live with gratitude in our hearts is to touch heaven" I love this gospel so much!!!

I read this quote this week in one of my study books and I just love it. Its a quote from President Monson and says, "At times there appears to be no light at the tunnels end- no dawn to break the nights darkness. If you find yourself in such a situation, I plead with you to turn to our Heavenly Father in Faith. He will lift you and guide you. He will not always take away your afflictions, but he will comfort and lead you with love through whatever storm you face." I LOVE this!!! Its a good reminder that We are never alone and we can do hard things!!! If we put our faith in Christ, ALL THINGS are possible.

I hope all is well back home. I think about you, miss you, and love you, but there is no where I would rather be! I know this church is true. I have a deep love and gratitude for the Atonement. The Book of Mormon is true! I am amazed at how personal every scripture has become. Jesus Christ lives! He knows who we are individually. He knows our name, our face, our heartache, our desires, everything! He is only a prayer away so go to him!

The PLAGUE

From the subject you can guess how this week was. haha. A horrible intestinal infection swept through the CCM. My roommates got it last week and were out for three days. Then some elders in our district got it. Hermana Lindsey and I prayed really hard that we would be okay and not get it. Our prayers were answered! We were immune to the disease. The infirmary was working overtime though to take care of everyone. Our poor roommates were so sick!!! One of the roommates threw up during the night and if you know me at all you know I do not do well with vomit. Missionary miracle though, I was able to go in and help her and take care of her and was totally fine. Okay, enough about gross intestine stuff.

The rest of the week was amazing! Our district went to the temple again on Friday. I LOVE the temple!!!! My Spanish is getting better. It’s not great, the grammar is terrible haha, but I am getting better for sure! My companion and I are now able to go into lessons with just our scriptures! We don´t need notes anymore which helps us follow the spirit a lot better. We also taught TRC for the first time on Thursday and it was amazing! We taught 3 members and shared with them a spiritual thought about the importance of Faith. One of members lost his grandfather last week and has been having a hard time. Both my companion and I testified that because of Faith, we can know where our loved ones are. (My companion lost her mom when she was 6 years old.)

I also have a new nickname here in the CCM. I have gotten so many Clark Kent jokes it is ridiculous. We have an elder in our district named Elder Clark and our teachers love pairing us up together. But that is not my new nickname. My new nickname is HerMAMA Kent.

I love being a Missionary and I love the CCM! Thank you all for your prayers for the missionaries. We definitely feel them! I KNOW this church is true! I am so excited to share this amazing Gospel with the People in Florida in just over 2 weeks!!!!! The Book of Mormon is TRUE. I have loved reading it here. There is something about a mission that makes the Book of Mormon come alive. I am understanding it so much more than before my mission. I can't get enough it! I am so grateful for Prayer.

Friends, please know that Heavenly Father is there and WANTS to hear from you. I have learned to go to him for every little thing and I can't even begin to describe how close it has pulled me to my Father in Heaven.

I hope things are well back in the Promised Land of Bountiful. Mexico is surprisingly cold and when it rains the streets don't drain so we are walking in water a lot of the time. I love you all so much!

Love,

Week 3!

Hola!!!!

First I just want to start by saying how much I LOVE being a missionary! I can't even describe how close I feel to my savior all the time!

Last Friday my district had the opportunity to go to the Mexico City Temple. I love the temple and have really missed going. Thankfully we got headphones to listen in English.

Honestly there isn't much to say. haha. Every day is the same, but every day is AMAZING! It has been pretty cold this week (didn't really expect that in Mexico). It rained a lot and the streets don't drain so we just walk through lots of water. It’s fun though. :)

Ok funny story now. So I was wearing my grey sweater and I couldn't figure out why it smelled then I saw it.  A big pee stain right on the edge. That dang dog peed on my sweater. I actually laughed and wanted to cry. It made me miss him. How is he doing by the way?

The biggest thing I have learned while being here in the CCM is that we are never alone. God is ALWAYS there and is so eager to help us. I have also learned that I cannot do anything without God's help. Spanish has been a struggle but everyday I feel myself learning more and more. This past week I was getting really frustrated while trying to memorize the first vision in Spanish. Everyone else in my district had it down but for me, it just wasn't coming. That's when I realized that I was trying to do it myself. I prayed to God apologizing for forgetting Him and for not including Him. I asked for his help and it was amazing at how much better I did when i acted in Faith and leaned on my Heavenly Father.

My companion and I taught our worst lesson ever this week. We just sat there and had no idea what to say or do. We stopped working together and had some contention between us. It was crazy and terrifying how fast the spirit left. Our teacher who was acting as our investigator stopped us, told us how to fix it and asked us to re do our lesson the next day. We were so ashamed as we left. We talked things out and learned how to work together and prepare. The next day we had the most amazing lesson. The spirit was so strong and were able to work together and teach "Yael “about the Restoration and the Book of Mormon. The spirit cannot reside in contention.

The Church is true. We are children of a Loving Heavenly Father who loves us more than we could possible know. He is aware of EVERY SINGLE PERSON, no matter who you are, or what you have done, He loves you and wants to help and bless you. I hope all is well with everyone back home. I think about you guys often. We missionaries FEEL your prayers. Don't forget how powerful prayer is.

Love,

Hermana Kent

First Week!

Hola!!!

Being a missionary is the coolest thing ever! I can't even describe how amazing it is to be around the spirit this strong all the time! I am so happy its ridiculous! There isn't anywhere else I would rather be. An important lesson I have learned is the need to turn out from yourself. The first week I was pretty caught up in myself and my struggles. On Sunday we watched a devotional from Elder Bednar and he talked about turning out from yourself and serving others. So I did just that and it was amazing how much that helped. I am so much happier serving other people and forgetting myself!

(2nd letter after a brief technological intermission)...

Ok so Hermana Kent is stuggling with technology. haha. I love being a missionary! Mexico is absolutely beautiful! I feel so blessed to have had the chance to come to the CCM in Mexico! My companion Hermana Lindsey and I taught our first investigator (our teacher) the third day we were here! The gift of tongues is real. haha Sometimes I don't even know what I am saying but the words just seem to fall from my mouth. I have learned how important it is to involve the Lord in EVERYTHING I do. The Lord wants to bless his children. We just have to ask him.

I know this church is true! The Book of Mormon is true! PLEASE read it! It is filled with comfort and guidence from the Lord. Pray often! I love you all so much!

Love,
Hermana Kent

Tender Mercies

After a particularly difficult day, we received this text:

"My husband and I serve here at the CCM and we love your sweet daughters.  They were in my office to say hello and I knew I needed to send a picture.  Have a great day and thank you for these beautiful examples of love and devotion."
Love seeing that name badge!
